The main event of the first National Ecology Day was held in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province on the 15th. Zheng Shanjie said at the opening ceremony that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the National Development and Reform Commission has thoroughly implemented Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, earnestly implemented the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, vigorously promoted the construction of ecological civilization, made every effort to implement specific work on the top-level design of ecological civilization, actively promoted green and low-carbon development, continuously promoted industrial optimization and upgrading, accelerated the pace of green energy transformation, and promoted the improvement of ecological environment quality.  

The construction of ecological civilization requires persistent efforts and continuous input. Zheng Shanjie said that the National Development and Reform Commission will firmly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions and instructions and the deployment of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, unswervingly promote high-quality development, comprehensively promote the construction of a beautiful China, and focus on doing a good job in five aspects: accelerating the promotion of green, low-carbon and high-quality development, actively and steadily advancing carbon peak and carbon neutrality, strengthening ecological and environmental protection, enhancing policy support and scientific and technological support, and solidly carrying out the assessment of the construction of a beautiful China.  

To help achieve the "dual carbon" goals, the National Development and Reform Commission will earnestly perform its coordinating duties for "dual carbon", implement the "Ten Actions for Carbon Peak" in a planned and phased manner, promote the gradual shift from dual control of energy consumption to dual control of carbon emissions, further advance the energy revolution, accelerate the planning and construction of a new energy system, continuously improve economic policies for green and low-carbon development, improve the market-oriented allocation system of resource and environmental factors, accelerate innovation in green and low-carbon technologies, and support the demonstration and application of advanced and applicable technologies.  

In addition, to scientifically reflect the progress and effectiveness of work across the country and in various regions, the National Development and Reform Commission will continue to improve the indicator system, optimize technical solutions, and organize the first formal assessment of the construction of a beautiful China.  

On June 28, 2023, the third session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress adopted a decision to set August 15 as the National Ecology Day. The main event of the first National Ecology Day was co-hosted by the National Development and Reform Commission, together with the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and other departments, and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, with the theme of "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
