Reporters learned recently from the National Energy Administration that in the first 8 months of this year, the country's newly added solar power installed capacity exceeded 100 million kilowatts, accounting for about 57% of the total newly added power installed capacity. As of the end of August, the installed capacity of solar power was approximately 510 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 44.4%. 510 million kilowatts is equivalent to the total installed capacity of 23 Three Gorges power stations.

Data shows that as of the end of August, the country's cumulative power generation installed capacity was about 2.76 billion kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 11.9%. Among them, hydropower installed capacity was about 420 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%; wind power installed capacity was about 400 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 14.8%.

In August, the growth rate of nuclear power and solar power accelerated, while the growth rate of hydropower turned from negative to positive. Specifically, hydropower grew by 18.5%; nuclear power grew by 5.5%, with the growth rate accelerating by 2.6 percentage points compared with July; solar power grew by 13.9%, with the growth rate accelerating by 7.5 percentage points compared with July.

The "dual carbon" strategy has led to the vigorous development of industries such as photovoltaics. Data shows that from January to July, China's solar cell output reached 276.6 gigawatts, a year-on-year increase of more than 56%, and the total export value of photovoltaic products including silicon wafers, cells, and modules reached 32.47 billion US dollars.

In the first 8 months of this year, major power generation enterprises in the country completed investment of 470.3 billion yuan in power source projects, a year-on-year increase of 46.6%. Among them, solar power accounted for 187.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 82.7%; nuclear power 52.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 56.9%; wind power 114.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 38.7%. Investment in power grid projects reached 270.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%.
