On July 31, the National Energy Administration held its regular press conference for the third quarter, releasing the energy situation and renewable energy development in the first half of 2023, introducing the national new energy storage installed capacity and national electricity market transactions in the first half of 2023, and answering reporters' questions.
Wang Dapeng, Deputy Director of the New Energy and Renewable Energy Department, stated that since the first half of the year, the National Energy Administration has thoroughly implemented the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, anchored the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, coordinated energy security supply and green low-carbon development, and continued to promote the construction of large-scale wind and photovoltaic bases, major hydropower projects, and pumped storage. The development of renewable energy has achieved new breakthroughs.
The installed capacity of renewable energy has reached a new breakthrough. In the first half of the year, the country's newly added installed capacity of renewable energy was 109 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 98.3%, accounting for 77% of the newly added installed capacity. Among them, conventional hydropower newly connected to the grid was 2.06 million kilowatts, pumped storage was 3.3 million kilowatts, wind power was 22.99 million kilowatts, photovoltaic power generation was 78.42 million kilowatts, and biomass power generation was 1.76 million kilowatts. As of the first half of 2023, the country's renewable energy installed capacity exceeded 1.3 billion kilowatts, reaching 1.322 billion kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 18.2%, historically surpassing coal-fired power, accounting for approximately 48.8% of China's total installed capacity. Among them, hydropower installed capacity was 418 million kilowatts, wind power was 389 million kilowatts, photovoltaic power generation was 470 million kilowatts, and biomass power generation was 43 million kilowatts.
The power generation of wind and photovoltaic has grown rapidly. In the first half of the year, the national renewable energy power generation reached 1.34 trillion kilowatt-hours, among which wind and photovoltaic power generation reached 729.1 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 23.5%.
Construction and operation of photovoltaic power generation. In the first half of the year, the country's newly connected photovoltaic capacity was 78.42 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 154%, including 37.46 million kilowatts of centralized photovoltaic power generation, a year-on-year increase of 234%, and 40.96 million kilowatts of distributed photovoltaic power generation, a year-on-year increase of 108%. As of the end of June 2023, the country's photovoltaic power generation installed capacity reached 470 million kilowatts, including 272 million kilowatts of centralized photovoltaics and 198 million kilowatts of distributed photovoltaics. In the first half of the year, the national photovoltaic power generation was 266.3 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 30%. The national photovoltaic power generation utilization rate was 98.2%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points year-on-year.
